Supporting the Best in Boyle Heights: Ron Gustafson Receives Local Business Leader Award from Neighborhood Music School

Under the stars on the Terrace at L.A. Live, Neighborhood Music School’s Music Masquerade Gala recently celebrated 105 years of making music and transforming lives – and recognized three individuals, including Coast’s Ron Gustafson, whose support has helped enable the Boyle Heights institution to thrive.

As the school put it, NMS honored “those who have contributed so deeply to our community of students, families and friends in Boyle Heights, and far beyond.”  Gustafson, Coast President and longtime NMS Board member, accepted the Local Business Leader Award for his commitment to community and music education.  The Award recognizes the commitment to community and music education demonstrated by local business leaders who deeply support the transformative power of music.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis accepted the President’s Award to honor the commitment, volunteerism, and community engagement she has championed as a role model and Supervisor for the 1st District.  Composer Germaine Franco accepted the Mancini Award recognizing her professional and civic accomplishments that emulate, advocate and promote music education.  “All three honorees make our Neighborhood sing,” NMS proclaimed.

Neighborhood Music School is committed to changing lives through music.  Founded in 1914, NMS provides low cost/high quality one-on-one music instruction to those who need it most.  Located in a Victorian house in the Boyle Heights, NMS serves as an anchor to the community, a bridge to cultural exchange and opportunity and an usher to the mentorship between teacher and student that is integral in music instruction and in life.
