Our Community at Coast Packing
For a century, Coast Packing has been one of the City of Vernon’s stalwart corporate citizens, serving on various government boards and committees and assuming a leadership role on the Vernon Chamber of Commerce. Coast CEO Eric R. Gustafson is past Chairman of the Chamber Board and in 2018 received the Chamber’s Excellence in Public Service Award.
We are thrilled to announce that Coast Packing is a proud corporate sponsor of KCRW’s “Good Food” PieFest and Contest on April 28 at Royce Quad at UCLA!
At the heart of the festival is a massive pie contest where hundreds of bakers compete to impress the judges — a collection of LA’s finest chefs and food writers. Join us for a day of delicious pie, baking demos, a marketplace, beer garden, kids activities, music from KCRW DJs, and more. Don’t miss this free event – come grab a slice with us!
Each year, we return as a corporate sponsor of the popular fall ritual, KCRW’s Good Food and Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament, located in downtown Los Angeles. We join Gustavo Arellano and Evan Kleiman, the hosts of KCRW’s renowned show, Good Food, for an exciting day chock-full of fun activities and live tournament rounds with the Fuerte Four. Each of the finalists receive a 4-pound tub of our VIVA lard, and the ultimate winner takes home the coveted “Golden Tortilla”! Not only is the tournament an opportunity to showcase a hugely popular local artisanal specialty (tortillas!), but it gives up-and-coming and established tortilla MAKERS access to an audience that truly loves this SoCal staple. Join us in celebrating — Vernon City Elementary School’s Field Trip Fundraiser success! The K-6th grade students got to experience Universal Studios by learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. What an amazing way to wrap up the school year! We are proud to have been a part of this initiative as a community partner!
The Chamber of Commerce also presented Gustafson with a commendation from the County of Los Angeles; county supervisors lauded Gustafson for his “dedicated service to the affairs of the community and for the civic pride demonstrated by numerous contributions for the benefit of all the citizens of Los Angeles County.” Gustafson served for seven years on both the City of Vernon’s Business & Industry Commission and the Housing Commission, where he was appointed its first chairman. He played a major role in helping the city to achieve historic milestones that transformed the governance practices for the community’s residential population, as well as preserving Vernon as a low-cost, attractive city in which to conduct business.
