Tank Farm Operator

TITLE: Tank Farm Operator

DEPARTMENT: Tank Farm

SUPERVISED BY: Production Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt   

SCHEDULE: 8:00am – 4:00pm 

SALARY RANGE:  $25 – $28/hour D.O.E

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tank Farm Operator is responsible for monitoring, tending, and planning movement of product from holding tanks to production equipment for refining and tanker vehicles for transport.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor gauges and meters on tanks in tank farm to ensure tank levels, temperatures, chemical amounts and pressures are at specified levels when offloading, transferring, or uploading product.

Offload Tanker Rail Cars

  • Offload tanker rail cars by first preparing product for transport through supply lines. Connect steam hoses to rail car and monitor for 1 ½ – 2 hours for product to be ready for offload.
  • Pull sample product for analysis prior to offload. Climb up rail car, open dome using pipe wrench, use sampler tool to draw sample from 1 ft, 2 ft. and 6 ft. depths. Pour sample into sample bottle; label bottle.
  • Deliver sample bottle to laboratory for analysis. Complete requisite paperwork.
  • Set lines for offload from tanker rail car to appropriate tank based on product type and using knowledge of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tankage. Connect hoses to tanker rails cars and verify equipment is secure. Begin offloading of product, monitoring gauges and meters.
  • Complete requisite paperwork throughout process documenting time, measurements, gauge readings.
  • Clean system lines using air to clear product in preparation for next use.
  • Once offload is complete, disconnect hoses from tanker rail car.
  • Release tanker rail car once offload is complete.

Feed Production

  • Set lines to prepare for flow of product through system from tanks to production equipment.
  • Prepare for product movement by verifying filters are clean; replace filters as necessary.
  • Monitor flow of productusing knowledge of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tankage.
  • Check computer system for production schedule to prepare for proper product flow.

Upload Tanker Rail Cars

  • Upload tanker rail cars with product. Set lines for upload of product from appropriate tank based on product type to tanker rail car using knowledge of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tankage. Connect hoses to tanker rail cars and verify equipment is secure.
  • Complete requisite paperwork throughout process documenting time, measurements, gauge readings.
  • Once upload is complete, disconnect hoses from tanker rail car.
  • Clean system lines using air to clear product in preparation for next use.
  • Release tanker rail car once upload is complete.

Transfers and Blends

  • Complete transfer of product from one tank to another based on production schedule and needs.
  • As needed, complete mixing of product types to create customized “blends” of product, based on production requests and needs.
  • Set lines to prepare for flow of product through system. Monitor flow of productusing knowledge of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tankage.
