Shipping and Receiving Operator

TITLE: Shipping and Receiving Operator (3:00pm-11:30pm)                 

DEPARTMENT: Shipping

SUPERVISED BY: Production Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt     

SCHEDULE: 3:00pm-11:30pm

SALARY RANGE: $20-$24/ hour D.O.E.     

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shipping and Receiving Operator is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling shipments in and out of the plant in a safe and efficient manner.   

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Data Capture 

  • Utilize data capture technology & equipment, including scan guns to maintain data in Canopy. 
  • Make all pallet movement using scanner 
  • Review invoice for shipments & process with scanner to ship out product requested. 

Receiving 

  • Responsible to ensure team adheres to safety and quality expectations 
  • Review receiving schedule with supervisor prior to start time to ensure smooth operation. 
  • Instruct truck drivers on safety regulations such as placing wheel chock to prevent accidental movement and secure unloading. 
  • Review paperwork from truck driver and verify information such as shipment type, number of pallets, required temperature of product, and USDA registry seal. 
  • Verify the seal or lock on truck container has not been broken or tampered with. 
  • Visually inspect container for vermin or fecal matter prior to unloading. 
  • Examine paperwork and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy. If paperwork does not match manifest, contact lead. 
  • Check temperatures utilizing a handheld infrared thermometer to ensure temperature of the received raw product is within the USDA safety and security guidelines. (X < 40 degrees) If temperature does not comply with safety regulations, contact lead. 
  • Ensure safe operation of powered lift vehicles, inclusive of completion of safety pre-checklist. 
  • Operate powered lift vehicles and hand trucks to convey, move, and hoist materials to receiving area. 
  • For raw products, weigh pallets and ensure net weight is in accordance to the manifest. 
  • Create labels for raw products including shipment information, weight and hold for inspection tags.  
  • Transfer raw products to holding coolers for inspection. 
  • Transfer packing material to designated location as needed.  

Shipping 

  • Other projects and duties as assigned.   
  • Review shipping orders with lead prior to start time to ensure smooth operation. 
  • Instruct truck drivers on safety regulations required prior to loading such as placing wheel chocks to prevent accidental movement and secure loading. 
  • Visually inspect truck for cleanliness prior to loading. If container is not cleaned, instruct driver to clean container prior to loading. 
  • Review invoice from truck driver and verify information such as shipment type, number of pallets, shipment locations, and stacking assignment.  
  • Transfer invoiced product to shipping area from warehouse utilizing electrical pallet jackets and powered lift vehicles. 
  • Review pallet number on shipment and document total numbers of products. 
  • Tag and label each pallet with product information.  
  • After verification, load truck in accordance to shipment location by utilizing powered lift vehicles and electrical pallet jacks. 
  • Review container prior to final seal. 
  • Document seal number and deliver to security guard for final seal prior to truck departure. 
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations. 
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Effective verbal communication.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one conversations with other employees in the organization.
  • Ability to operate powered lift vehicles; obtain & maintain powered lift vehicles certification.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to use common sense to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
