SCHEDULE: 12:00pm-10:30pm (Sunday-Wednesday)
SALARY RANGE: $24-$30/ hour D.O.E.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Refinery Operator is responsible for assisting the manufacturing and production process by refining and deodorizing fats and edible oils such as tallow, lard, coconut, etc.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Completes inspection of equipment to determine if sanitation is adequate to begin rendering process.
- Responsible to ensure team adheres to safety and quality expectations
- Operate refining equipment which can include centrifuges, filtration systems, deodorizers, pumps, mixers, etc. to ensure oil is properly processed to product specifications and ready for packaging and delivery.
- Monitor receipt of crude oil from tank farm to refining equipment by setting lines using knowledge of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tank inventories.
- Monitor refining process by observing gauges and meters on equipment and adjusting equipment as needed to standardized settings. Requires physical observation of refining equipment located on four floors of plant.
- Utilize PLC based computer systems to monitor and adjust refining process per department specifications and standardized settings.
- Pull sample products at various stages of refining and complete lab analysis for various specifications.
- Maintains logs on meter readings, gauge readings (such as water temperature and air pressure) and physical checks to system.
- Completes adjustments to system to optimize refining process including adjusting speed of pumps, stop/start oil inflow, recirculate flow, change raw product inflow percentages.
- Complete loading and unloading of oils from railcars, tanker trucks, tanks, and totes.
- Complete transfers of oils from tank to tank or to other departments.
- Completes minor repairs to equipment such as recalibration of gauges; contacts maintenance team to complete major repairs to system.
- Follows proper Good Manufacturing Practices and wears proper PPE (bump cap, ear plugs, safety glasses, hair/beard nets, steel boots, gloves, etc). Always be mindful of and adhere to GMP, Quality and Food Safety requirements.
- Train other employees in the use and operation of equipment.
- Adhere to all State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations.
- Understand and provide metrics, associated with department success, to leadership.
- Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

- 3-5 years related experience and/or training in related field
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Self-motivated and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends, or different shifts.
- Ability to work overtime.
- Ability to operate machinery.
- Ability to work in an environment with moderate to high noise level.
