SUPERVISED BY: Plant Engineer

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: 4:00am-12:30pm

SALARY RANGE:  $35-$37/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Mechanic Welder directs maintenance crews in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of equipment used throughout the plant, facilities, utilities, and powerhouse equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Maintenance Mechanic Welder conducts machine setup, performs repairs/preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on plant equipment to include, but not limited to: centrifuges, vacuum pumps, mixers, packaging machinery, conveyors, etc.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to ensure team adheres to safety and quality expectations.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance repairs of plant equipment including, but not limited to, production equipment during machine service. Prepares and sets up machinery for scheduled production runs.
  • Performs mechanical skills including, but not limited to: mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals, blueprints and work orders to perform required maintenance service.
  • Weld small and large components such as plumbing, beams, and pipelines (stainless steel and carbon steel).
  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of process equipment during production.
  • Installs replacement belts, filters, gears, chains, seals, bearings, O-rings, gaskets, sprockets and valves
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Welds machine components, determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Performs repairs to machines involving machine guarding, bolt replacement and breakdowns due to mechanical wear.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks such as lubricating parts, drives chains, etc.
  • Handles installations, including hooking up air, water, gas and the alignment and leveling of equipment.
  • Comply with safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Comply with OSHA & CalOSHA safety and health rules.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA regulations.
  • Complete work orders, records, logs and other written or computer-based documents
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Welder Training Program
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, SMAW etc.)
  • Trade School (of manufacturing relevance) and/or equivalent certification.
  • 5 yr+ maintenance experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical Technical degree is a plus
  • OSHA certification preferred.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in operation of cranes, forklifts, and aerial lifts.
  • Capable of communication and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.
  • Self-directed and ability to work independently with initiative.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work well in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Good knowledge of maintenance systems, work order process, preventative/predictive maintenance, etc.

  • Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
