Maintenance Manager

TITLE: Maintenance Manager                                    

SUPERVISED BY: VP of Operations

FLSA STATUS: Exempt                                 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing maintenance and construction personnel in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of facility, machines, equipment for the purposes of minimizing/eliminating downtime and remaining in USDA/FDA/BRC/Cal-OSHA compliance. The Maintenance Manager ensures the plant is operating efficiently, effectively, and safely while providing continuous improvements and development of the plant.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to ensure team adheres to safety and quality expectations
  • Responsible for responding to safety requests within 24 hours.
  • Lead plant maintenance & construction personnel on day-to-day operations of the plant’s maintenance.
  • Review, analyze and maintain department budget; allocate and monitor department funds.
  • Oversee capital and continuous development projects; ensure projects are aligned with approved budgets. Communicate scope of projects to plant personnel, vendors, and contractors, direct staff with project assignments and goals.
  • Management of CMMS, including training of the system and ensuring the integrity of the information stored in the system.
  • Complete regulatory reports and paperwork in compliance with environmental, health, and safety agencies; function as a board member for the regulatory service meetings.
  • Assess and analyze plant processes and designs to develop improved systems and support continuous improvements in productivity, efficiency, and safety of the plant.
  • Review maintenance schedules and repairs with plant personnel for prioritization and corrections.
  • Administers efficient and responsive inventory support; purchase and replace necessary maintenance supplies and parts.
  • Incorporate and implement data management services to create and analyze key performance indicators.
  • Develops and coordinates an effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Develop and communicate safety procedures and policies.
  • Develop standard operation procedures as required for proper operations and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
  • Key measures of success will be defined through production department efficiencies, budget management, BRC audit scores, internal team training and development targets, and overall response to safety initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance work performed and inventory.
  • Maintains a safe, healthy, and comfortable work environment for all maintenance employees and vendors; ensure proper safety protocol is adhered.
  • Execute & maintain confined space training & program for maintenance team; obtain and maintain trainer certification.
  • Execute powered industrial vehicles training and maintain training logs for maintenance team.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, training, coaching, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Act as a leader for outside related vendors and contractors.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Equivalent. Electrical Engineering Preferred.
  • 5-7 years related experience and/or training in maintenance or engineering role.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

 

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective verbal communication.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one conversations with other employees in the organization.

  • Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
