Maintenance Lead Mechanic
TITLE: Maintenance Lead Mechanic (5:00pm-4:00am)
SUPERVISED BY: Maintenance Supervisor/Maintenance Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $35-$45/hour D.O.E.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Lead Mechanic leads maintenance crews in the installation, repair, and preventative/predictive maintenance of equipment used throughout the plant. The Maintenance Lead Mechanic will also be an individual contributor and conduct machine setup, perform repairs/preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on plant equipment. (11:00pm-7:30am)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Lead Mechanic leads the maintenance of processes -including maintenance team training- in order to reduce mechanical downtime and keep product flows and production lines running at maximum efficiency.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to ensure the team adheres to safety & quality expectations.
- Ensures the team follows proper Good Manufacturing Practices (“GMP”) and wears proper PPE for the job completed (Head, Ears, Eyes, Hand, and Foot protection, hair/beard nets, etc). Always being mindful of and adhering to GMP, Quality and Food Safety requirements.
- Ensures the team applies 5S principles when completing a job. Keeping work area clean, uncluttered and organized to increase safety, reduce waste, and optimize productivity.
- Provides support in planning, scheduling and monitoring work of Maintenance Mechanics.
- Train, coach, & develop team, and communicate goals and progress to the team and leadership.
- Support Maintenance Supervisor and/or Maintenance Manager in leadership activities.
- Actively engage in and support continuous improvement activities & goals.
- Leads Maintenance Mechanics in preventative maintenance procedures and machine repair.
- Develop Standard Maintenance Procedures for routine maintenance tasks and ensure that mechanics are properly trained on these.
- Monitor status of work orders and requests in CMMS and ensures that works are completely following safety procedures and quality assurance requirements.
- Leads maintenance team to comply with safety requirements and helps to implement Safety Circle activities in a timely manner.
- Make sure that all required documentation and electronic records are complete as a result of execution of maintenance activities. Discuss all incomplete paperwork with mechanics (coach and counsel as needed).
- Previous experience maintaining accurate records of maintenance work performed and inventory via CMMS system preferred.
- Maintains Key Performance Indicators for tracking and reporting the performance of the maintenance function.
- Provides day-to-day support to all operating and maintenance teams having issues with troubleshooting, problem analysis, equipment failures, etc.
- Supports training of employees on proper work methods and safety procedures.
- Comply with CalOSHA safety and health rules (LOTO, Confined Space, etc.). Obtain & maintain OSHA 30.
- Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with USDA, FDA, BRC, & Cal-OSHA regulations.
- Provides regular status reports to maintenance leadership team.
- Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the maintenance department.
- Operate powered lift vehicles and hand trucks to convey, move, and hoist materials.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Trade School (of manufacturing relevance) and/or equivalent certification.
- 5 years of experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
- Advanced technical skills in ammonia refrigeration, high pressure boiler, mechanical and electrical fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Capable of communication and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.
- Self-directed, self-motivated, and ability to work independently with safety and accuracy.

- Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
- This position works 100% onsite, 4-5 days per week. May be required to work overtime.
