SCHEDULE: Variable

SALARY RANGE: $95,000-120,000 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Engineering & Project Supervisor is responsible for applying engineering and leadership skills in the safe, quality and effective execution of capital projects, technical repairs, maintenance programs, contractor management and support of daily maintenance activities performed by mechanics. The Engineering & Project Supervisor ensures projects are performed in compliance with safety, health, and regulatory standards and that they meet current and future business expectations.

Duties will include designing, developing, constructing and maintaining equipment and systems inclusive of automated equipment, line monitoring, remote control and CMMS applications. This role will also be responsible for overseeing budgets, building proposals and obtaining capital projects approval under the guidance of the Plant Engineering & Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Analyze plant processes and designs to develop advanced control systems to support continuous improvement in productivity, efficiency, and safety.
  • Research and identify new updates, technologies, and solutions to improve overall plant operation.
  • Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, operational layout and electrical schematics as required to configure operational systems.
  • Work collaboratively with plant personnel and contractors to build and install operations systems.
  • Diagnoses cause of mechanical and electrical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and support execution of preventative and corrective action.
  • Plan, direct, and record periodic testing to ensure proper production of the operating systems. Initiates modification or replacements of the equipment as needed.
  • Retrofit existing systems with automatic control systems.
  • Utilize Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to control systems and processes.
  • Troubleshoot high speed packaging repairs. (i.e., fillers, palletizers, and case erectors)
  • Aid mechanics in troubleshooting and fixing arduous maintenance repairs.
  • Provide feedback and instruct mechanics on repairs.
  • Assist in the development of standard operation procedures as required for proper controls operation and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Research vendors and distributors for cost-effective components.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Plant Engineering & Maintenance Supervisor oversees the consistent application of processes, including but not limited to maintenance team training and continuous improvement activities in order to reduce mechanical downtime and keep product flows/production lines running at maximum efficiency.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Active and contributing member of Safety Circle Team, taking action to ensure a safe work environment and works to maintain the safety of all employees. Distributes Personal Protective Equipment to staff and verifies training and behavior of employees.
  • Responsible for planning, and monitoring the work of Maintenance Mechanics and contractors to execute directed tasks.
  • Works closely with operations to schedule and accomplish equipment and facility repairs and upgrades.
  • Works with Maintenance and Production Supervisors to scope, plan and execute projects inclusive of training.
  • Perform line walks/safety audits to set & maintain expectations and hold people accountable for Company Values, compliance, and model appropriate behavior.
  • Attend Horizon Scheduling Meetings. Take stock of and support allocation of maintenance resources for the purpose of scheduling work for the horizon schedule.
  • Participate in morning meetings, visual board review, change of shift and alignment with daily activities and needs.
  • Provide necessary reports, metric measurements, progress of work orders, planned work, repetitive problems and capital project updates.
  • Provide day-to-day support to operation teams having issues with troubleshooting, problem analysis, root cause analysis of equipment failures, etc.
  • Make sure that all required documentation and electronic records are complete as a result of execution of maintenance activities. Discuss all incomplete paperwork with mechanics (coach and counsel as needed).
  • Validate schedule readiness for the next day (i.e. material kits, tools, lockouts, scaffolding, etc. are in place)
  • Reinforce the need for continuous improvement through coaching and recognition. Utilize maintenance KPIs and visual performance and management principles to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead Kaizen events.
  • Comply with OSHA & CalOSHA safety and health rules.
  • Ensure execution of planned scope of work is performed safely and efficiently.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Engineering Degree Required – Electrical, Computer or Controls Engineer preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish desired.
  • Self-starter and able to work well in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations using tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects to completion.

  • Understand the complexity of various maintenance restoration techniques; identify and effectively communicate the necessary time, skills, tools, materials, activities and sequence required to execute a scope of work.
  • Knowledge and/or exposure to Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TPM, 5S.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance & engineering policies and procedures.
  • Accurately execute CMMS.
  • Ability to provide timely guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill, and able to lead teams to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information to all levels of the organization, one-on-one and in meetings. Hourly employees to Executive Committee.
  • Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to influence managers, peers, and maintenance team.

  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
